Summer is Here!

Thank you so much to everyone who came our for Acquirefest 2010! We had such a great time performing with our guest groups and making new friends. Our most recent performance with The House Jacks and The Hightones was also a lot of fun! We were honored to be hosted once again at Kuumbwa Jazz Club in downtown Santa Cruz.

We're taking a break for the summer since we live all over California, but we'll see you in the fall! The UCSC school year starts in late September, so keep your eyes peeled for information about auditions and fall quarter events. In the meantime, enjoy your summer, and thanks again for a great year!

Acquirefest 2010 - May 28 & 29

Acquirefest 2010 is just around the corner! This is our fourth annual celebration of West Coast a cappella at UCSC. We're inviting groups from California and Oregon to join us at the Stevenson Events Center on campus. As always, Acquirefest is free to UCSC students. See you at 8pm on May 28th and 29th!

A Cappella in Wonderland a Major Success!

Thanks to all of you who came out to support us at A Cappella in Wonderland on Saturday! We raised just under $1000 to be split between ourselves and Santa Cruz Hillel. Hillel's portion will fund the volunteers traveling on their alternative spring break to lend aid in Nicaragua. We're putting our share towards making this spring's Acquirefest even more awesome than ever before! Stay tuned for further details.

International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella

Acquire is traveling to the University of Oregon on February 6th for our very first ICCAs! We're excited to perform with our friends in Divisi and meet a bunch of other amazing a cappella groups in the area. If you find yourself near Eugene, OR this weekend, come out and show your support!

"I'm On A Boat" MP3 Hits Stores!

Acquire's YouTube hit "I'm on a Boat" hits iTunes and Amazon as an MP3 single! Produced by Charlie Forkish of The Stanford Harmonics and Chris Crawford of A Cappella Records, the single is available for purchase as of December 18th.

Fall 2009 Auditions!

That's right, it's auditions season again! Check the auditions page (via the frontpage link) for more information! This year's trials are going to be held on Saturday October 10th from 9-5, with callbacks planned for the next day. We hope to see you there!

ACQUIREFEST 2009

Once again, Acquire is presenting its annual Acquirefest a cappella festival! This year the show will take place on two nights: Friday, May 8th and Saturday, May 9th. Close to a dozen groups will be performing. This show will be held at the Stevenson Event Center and, as always, will be free. Visit the Acquirefest Event Page for more information.

Pump It Up!

Acquire is excited to announce its first ever benefit show--Pump It Up!: A Musical Benefit to Provide Water to Sub-Saharan Africa. Ticket proceeds from this show will go largely to PlayPumps Int'l, providing water pumps to citizens in impoverished African countries. Upcoming Shows & Projects

Thanks to everyone who came out to our first East Meets West Showcase--it was a big success and it was a lot of fun having the Brown Derbies come by to perform. The venue was packed tight, so extra thanks to everyone who got inventive finding seating!

What's exciting is that we will be having a second performance in our East Meets West Showcase! "Round 2" will feature VoiceMale from Massachusetts's Brandeis University. Find more information at our events page and be sure to not miss another exciting opportunity to hear some groups from the East Coast.

Our exciting announcement was that Acquire is now recording their very first CD project! This will be an intensive project over the coming quarter and we'd love all the help we can get. Visit our donation page to find out how to contribute to the project.

East Meets West Showcase Tomorrow!

As the fall quarter comes to a close and we all prepare for the holiday season, the Acquire Events Page has been updated to let you in on some of the events and performances Acquire will be performing at over the next few months. Check out a video of Acquire performing OneRepublic's "Stop and Stare" right here, performed at UC Berkeley for the 2008 West Coast A Cappella Showcase. Thanks to all the Acquire fans who made the drive up to Berkeley to see the set--it was a great performance for all groups involved.

Fall 2008: Auditions & more

It's a brand new year and Acquire A Cappella couldn't be more thrilled to start singing again! Over the next few weeks, information will be posted on this site about upcoming performances and other events. A lot is planned for the next quarter so be sure to check in at the Events page and join our Facebook to keep up to date.

The most exciting news of course is our upcoming Auditions for new singers! Our search for the latest group of Acquire singers will take place in mid-October at Cowell College. More details will follow, so in the meantime, visit the official Auditions Page and read answers to a series of questions you may have, and join the Auditions Mailing List to get all the details on how to audition.

Chancellor's Inauguration Video

Acquire was honored to perform at the inauguration of UCSC Chancellor George Blumenthal. The event was a spectacular milestone in the group's career and it was wonderful to perform for esteemed members of the California educational community. Post-Acquirefest

Thanks to everyone who made it out to Acquirefest; this year's event was even bigger than last year and we all had a ton of fun putting it on. Special thanks to all the groups who came out and performed as well as the 500+ fans who packed the Stevenson Event Center to watch! Videos from the show will be available soon.

Acquirefest 2008

It's back again--Acquire A Cappella presents the 2nd annual spring concert, Acquirefest. Six a cappella groups from four schools will perform for the UCSC campus on May 30th at 8pm in Stevenson Event Center. The performance is FREE with a campus ID. Click here to go the Acquirefest Event Page.

Acquire Inspired By "Psychology and Religion" Course

How often does the last day of a science class culminate with an a capella performance?

Professor Ralph Quinn ended his fall quarter "Psychology and Religion" course with a performance by Acquire, UC Santa Cruz's third and newest a capella group on campus.

Following shouts of thanks and praise and a full standing ovation from the 491-person class, Acquire students rushed to the front of the lecture hall and began to snap and sing.

Three of the singers were or had previously been students from Quinn's "Psychology and Religion" course. He asked the group to sing for his "Humanistic Psychology" course last year and invited them again for the largely popular course "Psychology and Religion."

Kuumbwa Performance

On Saturday, January 12th, UCSC's newest a cappella group Acquire will be performing alongside Women with Wings, Heather Houston, and Blame Sally, a Grammy-nominated female singing quartet. The event is at Kuumbwa, a nonprofit jazz concert organization in downtown Santa Cruz. Proceeds from the concert will support children who have had a rough upbringing. Kuumbwa is wheelchair-accessible and 100% smoke-free.

Welcome to our New Singers

Congratulations to the newest members of Acquire: Geoff, Henry, Leesa, Marya, Missy, Rachel and Sarah. New pictures and bios will be appearing on the website very soon. If you'd like to hear the new Acquire group, come to the Cowell Open Mic Night on Thursday November 8th at 8:00 in the Cowell Fireside Lounge. We'll be doing a brand new song.

West Coast A Cappella Showcase

This saturday we'll be performing up at UC Berkeley for their West Coast A Cappella Showcase. We're thrilled to have been invited and we'll be doing two revamped songs from our old repertoire and introducing a brand new one. The show starts at 8:00 at Wheeler Auditorium and I believe that we're third on the set list. If you'll be in the bay area this weekend, I strongly encourage you to attend the show. Auditions are coming up!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by our table at the OPERS fair; we will be sending e-mails with auditioning info over the next few days. For those of you who didn't get a chance to sign up, e-mail robby@acquiremusic.org and you will receive all the details on auditioning. Also send an e-mail to that address if you're interested in joining the group's street team, assisting in various non-vocal domains.
We are excited to kick off the 2007-2008 year and we can't wait to start performing with newly arranged material and new group members. Keep checking back here for more updates on auditions, performances, and more!
