The Directors
Chris Crawford - Director Chris is the Founder and Musical Director of Acquire. Chris leads Acquire after singing in multiple groups and choirs over the past 10 years. As a treble, he received his core musical training during his five years in the Grace Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys publicly performing two services every week. In 8th grade, he joined Grammy Award Winning Pacific Boychoir Academy and toured across the world. In high school, Chris helped start a barbershop quartet called Bar 4 and he was the teaching assistant for all the singing groups. He has worked with solo recording artists and has been recorded on several CDs, including the soundtrack for an original play "FUSE: a chain reaction" with the University High School "Jazz Monsters" quintet. He founded Acquire on February 1st, 2007 and arranged the group's first hit song "Son of a Preacher Man."
Robby Sumner - Manager Robby is Acquire's Business Director and Manager, holding up the group's professional endeavors and spearheading areas such as concert promotion and web identity. He has been involved with the group since just after its inception and has been a constant presence at rehearsals and performances. Although he is a literature major at UCSC, Robby is planning to pursue intellectual property law in graduate school and has several years of experience in band management and new media identity. This, coupled with a history of musical training, has prepared Robby to oversee Acquire's street team. He is happy to speak to anyone interested in becoming part of Acquire's nonmusical side; just shoot him an email.
Andrea Aquino - Asst. Director Andrea is the Assistant Director of Acquire. She brings to the group seven years of experience in theatre, musicals, honor chorus, piano, and guitar. As Assistant Director, she leads group warm-ups and helps to teach new material. She also lends a helping hand in arranging songs for Acquire. She has been with Acquire since its founding and she plans to stay for as long as she can.
The Singers
Aimee - Alto A music major from UCSC, Aimee has several years of singing and playing piano below her belt. When she has spare time, her favorite activities involve cooking for her friends and rocking out to the musical styles of the bands Gomez, Queen, and the Beatles.

Andrea - Alto Andrea came all the way from Las Vegas to study literature, Japanese, and French at UCSC. She loves baking and cooking, and dreams of one day going to Le Cordon Bleu in Paris to study culinary arts. In addition to singing in Acquire, Andrea plays the piano, guitar, and tambourine (she also played the recorder for a few days). Her favorite smell is that of a freshly peeled orange.
Chris - Bass In addition to being music director for Acquire, Chris also joins the ranks as a singer. As a treble he's toured as far as Australia, New Zealand, Austria and Germany and has been recorded on a variety of choral CDs. At UCSC, Chris is always stays busy: double majoring in business management economics and music, working as the Apple Campus Rep, coaching an intramural softball team, and running rehearsals for the music department's spring opera.
Geoff - Bass Aside from singing, Geoff claims to have knowledge of up to four musical instruments. He has taken his bass playing so far as to play a stint on the Vans Warped Tour one summer. It can also be stated that Geoff has lived in Australia for an extensive period of time, and returns now to UCSC as a politics major.
Justin - Bass Justin has just rejoined the group from some time away and is excited to return to singing and eating Korean barbeque. Although he is a legal studies major as well as a business minor, he has been singing ever since he was five and dreams to one day make an appearance in a Broadway production.
Kait - Alto A former trombone player and current philosophy major, Kait can also be seen as part of the Voces: Latin American Ensemble. Her favorite thing to do is walking down the street with friends, making up songs about whatever's going on around them. She loves Fresno and has had a crush on every member of Acquire.
Kelly - Soprano After studying abroad last quarter in Peru she's glad to be back with Acquire. She's sung and acted her whole life and wasn't born in a state. Where was she born? She's now fluent in Spanish and hopes to live in Latin America one day working with public health advocacy. Two things on her life list are to travel to all 7 continents and run a marathon.
Leesa - Alto Nutella is both the greatest weakness and favorite food of Leesa, an avid baker who shares a birthday with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She has loved to sing ever since her very first appearance in the musical Annie. Since then she has remained warm to theatre, including a sting as narrator for a children's show pilot. Believe it or not, she has never played the game Monopoly.
Lindsay - Alto Lindsay brings a lifetime of love for music to her singing in Acquire as an alto. She has performed all over the world, from the Orpheum in Vancouver (with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra) to the Sydney Opera House in Australia (with composer Eric Whitacre). Her favorite color is yellow, and her favorite day of the year is Election Day.
Marya - Soprano A psych major and music minor, Marya's time in high school chamber choir took her singing as far as France, German, Italy, and Switzerland. She's a self-taught guitarist who hates tomatoes and is completely addicted to reality television (she'd love to be on the Real World). While she may at times be a procrastinator, she is never tardy in learning her music.
Matt - Tenor Matt, the newest addition to Acquire, got his singing start by harmonizing in an In-and-Out parking lot. His musical start, however, began as a drummer on his high school's drumline. When music isn't happening, he can be found talking to about every stranger he can (despite his parents' warnings) and working at Terra Fresca. He is currently a Global Economics major, will be spending the Summer in DC, and the Fall in Shanghai. Photo available soon!
Missy - Alto Born and raised in Kansas before heading west, Missy is at UCSC to study Organic Agriculture and Environmental Studies. Along with having roles in half a dozen musical productions, Missy has had instruction in piano and violin, and during her time in high school choir she traveled to Italy and gave a performance at the Vatican. She loves sushi, tea, and the Diamondbacks baseball team.
Patrick - Bass When he isn't singing, Patrick can often be seen playing Ultimate Frisbee. His favorite book is the Cat in the Hat and he loves the film Mulan. His strong academic interests in the fields of music and business make Acquire the perfect place for him to spend his time.
Rachel - Soprano No stranger to singing, Rachel has participated in a number of musical ventures over the years, including roles in musicals such as Grease, I&W, and the Sound of Music. In addition to this, Rachel also plays the organ, and she has traveled across the country doing so. She hates seafood like nothing else, and loves badminton to a similar degree.
Sara - Soprano Astrophysics major Sara has been singing since childhood and has performed in such shows as the Goldilears, the Mikado, Snoopy, and Little Shop of Horrors, as well as playing the role of Ruth in Pirates of Penzance. Her favorite author is Juliet Marillier, and she enjoys knitting and ballroom dancing (though not at the same time).
Sarah - Soprano One day, Sarah hopes to fall in love with a boy in a coffee shop and speak every romance language fluently. In the meantime she loves getting things for free, reading books, and wearing ribbons in her hair. She idolizes the singer/songwriter Gillian Welch and loves jazz music. Sarah enjoys playing piano and trying her best at mandolin and guitar.
Scott - Tenor Majoring in zoology, Scott's musical experience includes three years of high school choir, three years of men's doo wop, and many years of church choir. He enjoys composing his own music, performing in a band back home. His all-time favorite food is the chips and salsa found at La Capilla, a Mexican restaurant in his home town.
Shan - Tenor The oldest member of Acquire, Shan is a part of an off campus co-op called the Dharma Pad, spreading love through meditation and a way of thinking through Transformative Action (he has an alter-ego called Transformative Action Star). Wishing he had the abilities of Justin Timberlake, Shan has been performing musically for many years, including time in a high school a cappella group called White Chocolate.
Victoria - Alto Although Victoria has been singing since first out of the womb, her history of public performances began at the age of nine. She has had five years of formal training as well as experience in choir, a cappella, and playing guitar. Her favorite movie is Love and Death, and has stories to tell of having swum with sharks.
The Street Team
Sebastian - Web Technician Originally born in Stuttgart, Germany, Sebastian (or "Seabass") has been classically trained in piano since the age of five and has recently received internet fame through his all-piano medley arrangement of Kingdom Hearts tracks. He joins Acquire to assist in web presence and new media development, enhancing the group's online identity through his expertise in php and java coding. Since becoming a member of the street team he has become involved more and more, and is sure to become even more crucial in years to come.
Katharine - Performance Design Using her diverse knowledge of lights, sound, stage design, and other complicated performance aspects that read like Greek to the rest of the street team, Katharine shines brightest behind the scenes at concerts, given free range to manipulate the venue and create a great setting in which the group performs. She has become an invaluable asset to the group, and will graciously be expanding her role in the new year.
Missy - Marketing Coordinator When she isn't singing alto parts in the group, Missy takes on the position of the group's marketing coordinator. In this role, Missy maintains press relationships and helps get the word out to the community about Acquire news and events. She participates in many decisions regarding the design of the group's various marketing campaigns and the group's relationship with the UCSC campus and surrounding neighborhoods. Her handiwork can be seen in the many newspaper articles written about the group, as well as in the marketing materials seen posted around campus.
Blake - Man Friday A recent addition to the group, Blake brings his energy and experience to fill many cracks in the woodwork of the group's business side. From concert situations to marketing campaigns, Blake is an asset, assisting the business director in many areas as well as spearheading his own projects within Acquire. Over the next few months his role will expand into even more areas, while at the same time narrowing to a more specific role within the group.
